When choosing where to eat out I normally go to places recommended by friends, professors at school and reviews on the New York Times by Pete Wells. This past weekend Nick and I stepped out of our comfort zone and visited Tabare, an Uruguayan Restaurant in Bushwick New York.
Tabare, as stated on their website, means "someone who lives far from town" and although Tabare has been in business for over a decade in the town of Williamsburg Brooklyn. Three months ago a new location opened its doors to serve the hippy and inviting crowd of Bushwick.
We visited Tabare Bushwick during happy hour where the drinks were $6.00 and a special menu was available with dishes ranging from $18-$26. For starters, we ordered Provoleta, a mini castiron skillet with melted provolone cheese, oregano, and crostini.
For our main entree, I ordered Milanese de Pollo, a breaded chicken breast over a dijon mustard sauce with fried sweet potato chips and a ricotta Salata for $18. My chicken was cooked perfectly, lightly breaded and moist while my salad had the right amount of acidity to balance out the rest of the dish. The crunch on those sweet potato chips was unforgettable.
Nick ordered a Chivito completo an authentic Uruguayan sandwich with an array of meats, onions, peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, Spanish olives, aioli, and fries for also $18.00. The burger was huge and very filling, not that we doubted it due to its size.
While Nick enjoyed his meal with Pelegrino I orders a Pituco cocktail, a strawberry and orange Gin martini with a rosemary syrup which was super refreshing and light.
Overall, we loved Tabera-Bushwick, the interior design along with dim lights makes the restaurant inviting and intimate, perfect for a date night. The service was memorable, our waiter was extremely attentive and meticulous as was the rest of the staff. Once dinner was over we were surprised with champagne on the house and that detail took our experience at Tabare over the top. Thanks!
Our total for the evening was $64.
